Meal Ideas to Take to a Needy Family

Maybe you know a mom who just had a baby, miscarriage, a friend who just had surgery, death, an elderly friend or couple, or someone who has fallen on hard times.  You want to bless them with a meal but you need some inspiration. Many churches and women like to do this on a regular basis as a ministry to others and it is also a great way to bless others. Our family has not only made meals but also have been on the receiving end of that blessing and we have been so grateful for friends and family who have cared for us.

So today we wanted to share a few meal ideas to get your juices flowing--they were shared in our Wise Woman Builds {Titus 2} Facebook Group recently.

If you join our group you can find some instructions to a few of the recipes and extra recipe links too!

Don't forget to add a side--most of the dishes go well with rolls (french or garlic bread) and a salad!

Dessert ideas can include:

  • fruit

  • fruit salad

  • cookies (or bars)

  • brownies

  • dump cake

  • banana bread

  • cupcakes

  • chocolate pudding pie

  • blondies

Here are a few breakfast ideas (breakfast is sometimes forgotten but still very helpful):

bagels

homemade egg muffins

A good meal calendar planner website to organize meals online is Mealtrain.com.

Important note: Don't forget to put items in disposable containers to make it easy on the recipient! Sometimes when you are a new mom or recovering from something it can be hard trying to clean dishes and return them to the correct family.

A Peek into My Life

I promised I would try to keep these "Peek into My Life" posts so here is the latest that has been going on with me!

We recently attended my nieces sweet sixteen party and it was so fun--full of extended family, laughter, and dancing. We all had a great time! Here are some of the sweets that my nieces made, they did such a great job:

This cake was huge and was able to feed over 150 people. It was a white cake mixed with one side with cannoli and the other side fudge.  I actually shared an Instastory over at Instagram of the party (my daughter showed me how to do it) and now I think I've got the hang of it!

I also think I may have figured out why I keep not feeling good. I am wondering if I have a mild case of anemia. I am starting to take iron pills again and have been feeling so amazing lately! I pray and hope that it continues. I have been using the one below:

My family also attended our favorite annual Father Daughter Dinner Banquet. They had good fun and I am grateful that they had time to bond. This year it was little Isabella's first time to go. She two and a half now. Hasn't she grown?

I just love her dress.  I had almost bought this one at Costco which was so pretty too:

But then I found the pink rose petal dress at Once Upon a Child (my favorite store) with the tags still on them! The tags were from Macy's and the dress was originally $75. I paid $9.50! I love when I can find something I love at a great deal!

The whole family had SO much fun taking her! I really appreciate these banquets (hosted by some sweet friends of ours) --there is food, dancing, photoshoot, gifts, and a Christian speaker to encourage the dads. This year it was Todd Wilson from Family Man Ministries. Bella tied with another little girl for being one of the youngest attendees so Dad won this prize--A Dad's Prayer for His Daughters.

I will try to share more photos of this event in a future post!

Last week you would have been proud of me--- I broke out my new Elite Pressure Cooker and actually used it. I have to admit I only used the slow cooker function but it was a good chance to get familiar with it and this week I might try to use it to make beans, rice, or sweet potatoes. I heard meat takes a bit of practice so I might save that for later. I have been watching videos so I really think I can do this pressure cooking thing soon! (Don't laugh at me you pressure cooking pros!)

And finally, I also have been busy putting some of the finishing touches on the NEW Wise Woman Builds Titus 2 Facebook Group --yesterday we did HUSBAND BLESSINGS. This is where we share some things that we noticed our husband has been doing throughout the week and share them and remind ourselves to praise and thank him when we see him. We don't want all those little things to no unnoticed --it is great for growing a heart of thankfulness towards our husbands. Here is the graphic we use below:

It has grown quite a bit and we are loving this little community of sweet ladies and fellowship. You are welcome to come join us there, we think you will be blessed!

So what have you been doing this past week?

A Home with Joy and Gladness

"The home-life should also be made bright and full of sunshine. The courtesy of the true home is not stiff and formal but sincere, simple and natural. Children need an atmosphere of gladness.

Law should not make its restraints hang like chains upon them. Sternness and coldness should have no place in home-life or in family government.

No child can ever grow up into its richest and best development in a home which is gloomy and unhappy. No more do plants need sunshine and air than children need joy and gladness. Unhappiness stunts them so that their sweetest graces never come out."

The Christian Homemaker's Chore List {Printable}

It has been great fun connecting with some amazing and encouraging women all over the world in our new Wise Woman Builds Titus 2 Facebook Group (if you haven't joined yet, you are definitely welcomed to and we would love to have you)!

Recently a sweet gal from the group shared a wonderful "chore" list that will encourage you to keep a biblical focus through the week that she said she keeps next to her "real" chore list. I thought it might inspire you especially with it being the first day of Spring and we all know that spring cleaning will soon be on the way in most of our homes!

Here it is:

WEEKLY CHORES FOR LIFE

MONDAY - WASH DAY

Lord, help me wash away all my selfishness and vanity, so I may serve you for the week ahead.

TUESDAY - IRONING DAY

Dear Lord, help me wash out the wrinkles of prejudice I have collected through the years so I might see beauty in others.

WEDNESDAY - MENDING DAY

O God, help me mend my ways so I will not set a bad example for others.

THURSDAY - CLEANING DAY

Lord Jesus, help me to dust out the many faults I have been hiding in the secret corners of my heart.

FRIDAY - SHOPPING DAY

O God, give me the grace to shop wisely so I may bless my family with contentment and happiness and all others in need of love.

SATURDAY - COOKING DAY

Help me, my Savior, to brew a big kettle of brotherly love and serve it with clean, sweet bread of human kindness.

SUNDAY - THE LORD'S DAY

O God, I have prepared my house for you. Please come into my heart so I may spend the day and the rest of my life in your presence.

Easy Delicious Corned Beef & Cabbage

If you are looking to make some easy delicious Corned Beef & Cabbage you have come to the right place!

Every year around this time (St. Patrick's Day) we like to whip some of this up and it is a family favorite!

And honestly it is so easy, how could I not make it?

So if you have never made it before, don't be intimidated--it is super simple and your family will love you for it.

Here it is:

CORNED BEEF AND CABBAGE RECIPE

2 CORNED BEEF ROASTS
1 HEAD SMALL CABBAGE
1-2 SMALL SLICED ONIONS

Add all the above ingredients in a slow cooker for about 5-7 hours on high along with the seasoning packet it comes with and it comes out simply amazing and the meat literally falls apart.

Seriously, people, that's it!

You can also add potatoes, carrots and a box of beef broth for more taste! Sometimes we eat it with a side of brown rice.

When we have this for St. Patrick's Day we might also have it along with some Irish soda bread and butter and make sure to have a green drink available (yes, I know it's not healthy, but it's only once a year). They also get a green dessert like jello, key lime pie. or green cupcakes.

The kiddos like to wear green too and earlier in the day I will print out some printables, word searches, etc. and things for them to do.

If you have leftovers (I can't remember the last time we have) you could make a corned beef hash like the one pictured below for the next day.

This looks so good I think I can actually smell it through my computer! I also think this Corned Beef and Cabbage Soup is worth a try!

Every year we make the corned beef in TWO crockpots because our family is large, but a few days ago my son was washing the liner for one and it slipped out of his hands and broke in the sink. So this year I think I am going to attempt to make it in my Elite Pressure Cooker that I got for Christmas. It is a pressure cooker AND a slow cooker in one. I have been afraid to use it,  but I will try to be brave and give it whirl and let you know how it goes!

How do you like to cook your corned beef?
