Summer Reading: 5 Encouraging Books for Pastor's Wives

Are you a pastor's wife or is your husband about to go into ministry?

If so, you will be encouraged by our post today!

Today we are sharing some books that we know will be an inspiration to you. I know that sometimes in your role you might feel all alone and need someone who understands your unique position and role. Who better than someone who has been there?

My husband did some church planting in the past years and so I know what life can be like doing ministry with your husband --so that is why we are sharing today's list. I hope it blesses you!

Here are 5 BOOKS FOR PASTOR'S WIVES:

1. THE PASTOR'S WIFE by Gloria Furman

In this uplifting and often humorous book, Gloria Furman offers pastors’ wives a breath of fresh air, reminding readers that Christ stands ready to help regardless of the circumstance—whether it’s late-night counseling sessions, unrealistic expectations about how they spend their time, or complaints about their husbands’ preaching.
Filled with life-giving truth from God's Word, this book will help pastors’ wives joyfully treasure their Savior, love their husbands, and serve their churches.

YOU CAN FIND THIS BOOK HERE.

2. TRUE COMPANION by Nancy Wilson

Being a pastor's wife isn't the least bit about wearing fancy hats and attending church potlucks. In fact, you can see Nancy Wilson's thirty years of experience most clearly in how she reacts to the difficult stuff -- the stuff that can make you (especially if you're married to a pastor) feel inadequate and under-qualified.
True Companion offers friendly, practical, and above all Christ-centered wisdom on how to help your husband in his vocation, how to deal with the "congregation at home" (kids), how much (or how little) a pastor's wife needs to be involved in the church, what sins tend to spring up in a pastor's home, how to deal with adversity from enemies (or from friends), and a host of other issues.

YOU CAN FIND THIS BOOK HERE.

3. PARTNERS IN MINISTRY by Christine Hoover

The ebook is divided into six parts, each part packed with essays that both speak to the heart and offer practical help for ministry:

Lessons Learned in Ministry
The Ministry Wife's Role
Helps for the Ministry Wife
When You're Hurting, Tired, or Discouraged
Friendship and Ministry
Specifically for Sundays

YOU CAN FIND THIS BOOK HERE.

4. ONE WITH A SHEPHERD by Mary Somerville

One with a Shepherd is a wealth of God's wisdom and grace for the wife of a man in ministry. It is biblical, practical and personal. Whether one has been a pastor's wife for some time, or is just starting out, this book will serve as a faithful friend in equipping and encouraging the minister's wife in her quest to exalt Christ and have joy in the journey.

YOU CAN FIND THIS BOOK HERE.

5. THE CHURCH PLANTING WIFE by Christine Hoover

"Nothing in my life goes untouched by my husband’s calling."
Christine Hoover’s words in the first chapter describe so well the life of a church planter’s wife, which is enormously difficult yet extraordinarily rewarding. To be married to a church planter is a calling of its own with a richness of its own.
In The Church Planting Wife, Hoover explores and encourages the hearts of her readers while teaching what it means to have heart prepared for this unique ministry. She knows the challenges: A church planter's wife must develop a job description, be a wise helper to her husband, develop friendships within the church and community, deal with stress and discouragement, handle wounds, and more. Christine speaks candidly about these challenges while urging readers to grow a heart that wholly reflects Jesus.
Spread throughout these pages are stories and interviews from church planting wives. Christine Hoover empathetically and pointedly builds from these testimonies to uplift the reader and offer lessons of hope in the midst of a challenging ministry.

Summer Series: 6 Books to Encourage Homeschool Moms

Every summer I usually try to read some books that will encourage me for the school year coming up. We all need fresh encouragement and vision for the year no matter how many children and what your circumstances might be!

I honestly wish I could remember all the books that encouraged me throughout the 20 years that I have homeschooled, there were some that really helped and I remember especially enjoying the ones that shared their own personal stories of how they ran their schools and how they dealt with problems that would arise.

So today I am sharing a few books that might be of interest to you. I hope they will bless you as they did me! They are not in any order and this will be Part One since there are too many to list!

Here they are:

6 BOOKS TO ENCOURAGE HOMESCHOOL MOMS

1. THE HOMESCHOOL MOM'S BIBLE

This is the NIV version but you can also get the KJV here.

2. TEACHING FROM REST: A HOMESCHOOLER'S GUIDE TO UNSHAKEABLE PEACE

"Those who have made the decision to homeschool their children have done so out of great love for their children and a desire to provide them an excellent education in the context of a warm, enriching home. Yet so many parents (mainly mothers) who have taken up this challenge find the enterprise often full of stress, worry, and anxiety. In this practical, faith-based, and inspirational book, Sarah Mackenzie addresses these questions directly, appealing to her own study of restful learning (scholé) and her struggle to bring restful learning to her (six) children."

You can find this book HERE.

3. THE UNHURRIED HOMEMAKER

"Homeschooling is a wonderful, worthwhile pursuit, but many homeschool parents struggle with feelings of burnout and frustration. Drawing on twenty years of homeschooling her eight children, Durenda Wilson gently reminds parents about the things that really matter, as she offers a clear portrait of what a life-giving home life can be during the homeschooling years. Reading The Unhurried Homeschooler is like having coffee with a trusted friend. You’ll be encouraged as you learn to do what God has put before you. This book will lighten your load while helping you learn how to raise life long learners and ENJOY the homeschool years with your kids."

Summer Reading: 6 Charlotte Mason Books for Homeschooling Moms

It's mid-July and I know that many of you are planning the new school year. What a fun time, isn't it? Ordering books, purchasing your supplies, and drawing up a plan to make it all happen.

That is why I wanted to devote some of the Summer Reading Series to homeschooling. If you wanted to teach your children the gentle art of learning this year using the Charlotte Mason method then you are in the right place!

"Children should be taught their duty toward God. It is their duty. That which they owe, to love Him "with all their heart, with all their mind, with all their strength" these things are seldom taught as they should be."

 -Charlotte Mason

When the children were younger we used several of the methods that she recommended. It was fun and the kids really enjoyed it. I hope this list will be helpful to you.

6 ENCOURAGING CHARLOTTE MASON BOOKS

1.  A CHARLOTTE MASON COMPANION: PERSONAL REFLECTIONS ON THE GENTLE ART OF LEARNING

Charlotte Mason's principles of education are not only a way of learning but also a way of life. A Charlotte Mason Companion gives you powerful tools to create an extraordinary learning experience. At the turn of every page, you will meet a practical idea and the inspiration to carry it out. Chapters on using good books, heroes in history, poetry, art and music appreciation, nature study, the atmosphere of home, the discipline of habit, keeping up enthusiasm, (to name a few) are referred to again and again by Karen's readers. Since its debut in 1998, A Charlotte Mason Companion continues to be one of the most trusted and often quoted books in the home school world. Plenty of encouragement, wisdom and gentle instruction await you in this beautifully written and beautifully illustrated book. You will not want to loan this one out!

YOU CAN FIND THIS BOOK HERE.

2. A CHARLOTTE MASON EDUCATION: A HOME SCHOOLING HOW-TO MANUAL

The immensely popular ideas of Charlotte Mason have inspired educators for many decades. Her unique methodology as written about in her six-volume series established the necessary protocols for an education above and beyond that which can be found in traditional classroom settings. In A Charlotte Mason Education, Catherine Levison has collected the key points of Charlotte Mason's methods and presents them in a simple, straightforward way that will allow families to quickly maximize the opportunities of home schooling. With weekly schedules, a challenging and diverse curriculum will be inspire and educate your child. A Charlotte Mason Education is the latest tool for parents seeking the best education for their children.

YOU CAN FIND THIS BOOK HERE.

3. MORE CHARLOTTE MASON EDUCATION : A HOMESCHOOLING HOW-TO MANUAL

Thousands of home educators benefited from the practical ideas contained in Catherine Levison's primer, A Charlotte Mason Education. Now Catherine takes an in-depth journey offering even more ideas for implementing the popular methods of Charlotte Mason into home schooling. In this concise and practical guide, Levison presents the key points of Charlotte Mason's methods as contained in her six-volume series. A perfect companion to her first book, More Charlotte Mason Education will continue to guide your family down an enjoyable and successful path of home schooling.

YOU CAN FIND THIS BOOK HERE.

4. FOR THE CHILDREN'S SAKE: FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION FOR HOME AND SCHOOL

For the Children's Sake is a book about what education can be, based on a Christian understanding of what it means to be human-to be a child, a parent, a teacher-and on the Christian meaning of life. The central ideas have been proven over many years and in almost every kind of educational situation, including ideas that Susan and Ranald Macaulay have implemented in their own family and school experience.

YOU CAN FIND THIS BOOK HERE.

5. WHEN CHILDREN LOVE TO LEARN: A PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF CHARLOTTE MASON'S PHILOSOPHY FOR TODAY

It can't be denied-children have an inherent desire to know. Teachers and parents can either encourage this natural inquisitiveness or squelch it. There is joy in the classroom when children learn-not to take a test, not to get a grade, not to compete with each other, and not to please their parents or their teachers-but because they want to know about the world around them!
Both Christian educators and parents will find proven help in creating a positive learning atmosphere through methods pioneered by Charlotte Mason that show how to develop a child's natural love of learning. The professional educators, administrators, and Mason supporters contributing to this volume give useful applications that work in a variety of educational settings, from Christian schools to homeschools.
A practical follow-up to Crossway's For the Children's Sake, this book follows a tradition of giving serious thought to what education is, so that children will be learning for life and for everlasting life.

YOU CAN FIND THIS BOOK HERE.

Book Number Two in the Charlotte Mason Topics series, The Outdoor Life of Children is a compilation of Charlotte Mason’s writings on the topics of Nature Study, teaching natural philosophy, and the importance of children being out-of-doors. Now all of Charlotte Mason’s writings on Nature Study and the outdoors (from the original six-volume set) are located in this one, easy-to-use volume.
